The main mode of transportation on Saint Martin is by car, but scooters, motorcycles and 4-wheelers share the road as well.<\/p>\n
Walking is definitely an option, with the availability of local buses passing through every few minutes. Local buses are fairly cheap, ranging from $1 and up depending on your destination. With no set bus schedule, be on the lookout for bus pickups and drop offs anywhere on their route. Taxis are also available at your service.<\/p>\n
Remember to have a valid driver license when driving on either side of the island. Make sure to follow the rules of the road on the island, which include wearing your seat belt and not talking on the phone or texting while driving.<\/p>\n
Private drivers, tour buses and car rentals can be reserved via your hotel or travel agent as well as at the local airports or online before arrival. Many popular companies such as Empress Rent-a-Car, Hertz and Alamo have rental car companies on site, with prices from as low as $35 a day.<\/p>\n
There is only one main road on the island, so traffic jams are very common to and from touristic destinations or during bridge openings on both sides of the island.<\/p>\n
Roadmaps and GPS devices are available at rental car agencies, but don\u2019t be afraid to ask for directions.<\/p>\n
