Discovering the island

English is the primary language spoken on the Dutch side of the island, with Dutch and Spanish also widely spoken. French is the main language on the French side, but most places have English speaking employees.

While both sides of the island accept U.S. Dollars, the French side’s main currency is Euros.

If staying on the Dutch side of the island, outlets are in 110volt, but if staying on the French side of the island, outlets are in 220volt. Most hotels and villas provide converter boxes and adapters if vacationing on the French side. While stores on the Dutch side stay open during lunch hours, most stores on the French side close between 12-3 for lunch.
