Activities

The island of St. Barths boasts 14 white sand beaches open to the public year-round. While nudism is prohibited, sunbathing topless is very common. Covered in shells and shell fragments, Shell Beach is one of the more popular beaches on the island and a great place to collect souvenirs for your trip home. The Colombier Beach, also known as Rockefeller’s Beach because David Rockefeller once owned property that surrounded it, is best known for its secluded location. Accessing the beach requires taking a boat or walking the 30-minute trail. Watersports are available on most beaches and include scuba diving, snorkeling, surfing, kayaking, jet-skiing and more. You can also enjoy a day out on the ocean with a chartered catamaran or sail boat.

Looking for something out of the ordinary? Enjoy a submarine tour that departs from the Gustavia Harbor and takes you on a journey under the sea. The air-conditioned submarine holds 22 passengers, with prices ranging from 40€ for adults and 25€ for children 2 and up. The duty-free island is known for its high-end shopping, with luxury fashion boutiques such as Louis Vuitton, Hermes and Cartier lining the streets in Gustavia. Luxury boutiques can also be found in most hotels on the island. If high-end shopping isn’t for you, take a stroll inside one of the many souvenir shops to pick up a souvenir t-shirt or magnet to bring home to family.

If you’re an art enthusiast, be sure to check out one of the many local artist’s studios on the island. Those can be found in Gustavia or in some of the larger hotels on the island.
